On the Verge is the third publication by FUTURES, a Europe-based photography platform bringing together the global photography community to support and nurture the professional development of emerging artists across the world.
Inspired by Charles Baudelaire’s 1859 letter critiquing photography, On the Verge explores the role of art and photography in shaping our future. Eight authors respond to Baudelaire’s arguments, drawing parallels between his era’s radical shifts and our own contemporary challenges - such as AI, climate change, and genetic engineering.
Alongside these letters, photo essays by artists like Alice Pallot and Dániel Szalai address urgent themes: personal freedom, surveillance, nature, and exploitation. This collaboration between Futures and Void demonstrates how art continues to challenge our imagination and embrace opportunities for change.
