Grāmatai izvēlētās gleznas, faktūras un darbu tapšanas tvērumi rāda procesu, kurā, eksperimentējot ar gaismu, materialitāti, glezniecības tehniku un priekšmetu (subject matter), tiek meklēti nozīmju veidošanas ceļi.

[ENG] This book is a segment of a process, or a space to encounter Andris Eglītis’ painting. With works from recent series and expressly written texts on his artistic output, it enables one to close in on the artist’s relationship with time, the environment, and his material; to feel moments of doubt and absolute connection, as well as to yield to the pull of both analytical reason and instinct. Eglītis’ works are such as to encourage one to bring out his ability to spark dialogue between contemporary and tradition-based painting. The paintings, textures and snapshots from the making of his work testify to a process in which ways of creating meanings are sought through experiments with light, materiality, painting techniques and the subject matter.

Title: Pale, chopped-off parallelogram
Author: Andris Eglītis
Publisher: Andris Eglītis, Savvaļa
Text authors: Agnese Krivade, Elīna Sproģe, Ēriks Apaļais, Katerina Gregosa
Design: Aleksejs Muraško
Photographers: Reinis Hofmanis, Andris Eglītis, Aleksejs Muraško, Antons Georgs Grauds, Ansis Starks, Jānis Pipars, Valdis Ošiņš, Renārs Derrings, Dmitrijs Pošvins, Pēteris Vīksna
Language: Latvian and English
Size: 216 pages
Release date: 2022

Anna Ostoya & Chantal Mouffe. In the essay, Mouffe critiqued the then-dominant ‘beyond left and right’ politics of neoliberalism and warned of its dangers – the rise of right-wing populist parties. Fascinated by Mouffe’s strikingly prophetic ideas, as well as her bold call to fight the status quo in order to radicalise democracy and to prevent violence, Ostoya returned to the booklet in 2019. She composed for it a series of portraits based on sketches of people on the New York City subway and on reproductions of her paintings and collages from the preceding decade. She also conducted a conversation with Mouffe about the politics of the last forty years, about the contemporary moment and about art, which is included in this publication.

Title: Politics and Passions
Publisher: MACK
Author: Anna Ostoya & Chantal Mouffe
Language: English
Size: 12.5 x 19.5 cm, 224 pages

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0770/1787/4764/files/Anna-Ostoya-_-Chantal-Mouffe-Politics-and-Passions-ISSP-1.jpg?v=1691748758
arnis-balcus-myself-friends-lovers-and-others
Arnis Balčus. Led by Jim Goldberg in Kaunas, Emma Bowkett and Naoise O’Keeffe in Dudelange, the residencies provided a platform for an exchange of ideas and discussions about the artists’ work: how their work relates to today’s world and how contemporary photographers can still find meaningful and inventive ways to present what means to be human.

Title: H – The Notion of Humanist Photography
Artists: Laurianne Bixhain, Marie Capesius, Ankita Das, Patrick Galbats, Kata Geibl, Anne-Sophie Guillet, Marie Smith, Anne Speltz, Indrė Urbonaitė, Severina Venckutė, Ieva Baltaduonytė, Máté Bartha, Sébastien Cuvelier, Karolina Gembara, Kseniya Halubovich, Tadas Kazakevičius, Geistė Marija Kinčinaitytė, Massao Mascaro, Artūras Morozovas, Bruno Oliveira, Agnieszka Sejud, Karolina Wojtas, Ana Zibelnik
Publisher: Centre national de l’audiovisuel (CNA), Kauno fotografijos galerija, 2022
Language: Lithuanian, english, french
Pages: 336
Release date: 2022

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0770/1787/4764/files/Kaunas-Gallery_Humanist-Photography_ISSP_1.jpg?v=1692624580
kristine-krauze-slucka-vibrations-of-material-universe-thirst-of-gold
Kristīne Krauze-Slucka. As every coin has two sides, so has every image. Seeking to make visible an otherwise invisible threat to the biosphere, contributed from analogue photographic image-making, I slowly create a layer of water on light-sensitive photographic paper and carefully inject the chemicals into it. For me, it serves as a comprehensive gesture, where the aesthetics of hand-made pollution are revealed. Where a watery blue becomes golden. It’s a gaze and a movement of my hand that recognises water as a universal solvent, treats it as a source of life and transformation and acknowledges it as a collector of chemical waste. Wh¬ether it is from large-scale production or one activity, a contaminated substance is created that finds its way back to us through its flow. There is no way we can avoid our contribution to the ecosystem. However, rather than a historical overview, the book is a loving look at the life and work of the aseembled authors and cherishes the role that lost and forgotten heritage plays in culture. A then closed and impoverished area ruled by crime, where neither police nor latvians went. Meeting the residents of the Maskavas Forštate made a strong impression on Stig Stasig, because the unfortunate fates he met, mirrored his own loneliness and depression. In 2015, he returned to Riga. Inseparable from language, they form the psychical spaces of fantasy and projection, recognition and misrecognition.
